People today are spending more time on their phones than ever before. In 2024, in-app purchase (IAP) revenue from mobile games reached $81 billion, marking a 4% year-over-year increase. This reflects the resilience of the mobile gaming market. So, where are the best opportunities for monetization on mobile? Well, the United States held its position as the leading market in 2024, generating $52 billion in IAP revenue, making up more than a third of the global total. The 16% YoY growth even outpaced the global average, showing that the market still has room to grow.
At the same time, Europe actually outpaced the U.S. in revenue growth for 2024. Across the continent, IAP revenue rose by 24%, nearly doubling the global rate. This includes strong growth in key markets like the UK, Germany, France, and Italy. Games like MONOPOLY GO! and Egg Party are dominating, while classics like Royal Match, Travel Town, and Gossip Harbor® have also pushed spending on casual mobile games through the roof. There’s a noticeable rise in revenue for hybrid casual mobile games. Royal Match, for example, is a Match-3 adventure game, and Top Games, Inc. joined in on the trend by launching their own Match-3 adventure puzzle game in June 2024. Top Games is renowned for its SLG game Evony: The King’s Return, which brought in $355 million in 2023 and is expected to generate nearly $300 million in 2024. The game has shown solid revenue performance in the past couple of years, with a strong in-app purchase rate.
